Abstract: This Paper aims to develop a demonstration using a mobile device to apply augmented reality to allow remote maintenance activities. This research was focused primarily on the aerospace industry studies as there was a research gap as there are few relevant researches in the manufacturing field and accepted industry needs. The targets were achieved by developing and designing controls in the engineering steps to create the optimum conditions for augmented reality. The design process pursued in four stages: first, research the current practice of using augmented reality remotely in manufacturing maintenance; second, classify maintenance remote assisting problems and weakness in augmented reality; third, design and develop software and hardware, depending on the case study for a prototype solution to remote maintenance enhanced by the augmented reality that can be demonstrated and tested; finally, validate the developed software and demonstration using industrial experts and authentic reports. The results of this project were an open source software updated IDEA 2.0 and a hardware robot, dubbed McRobot, which was automated to conduct the inspection process and support the augmented reality requirement. Three type of evaluations were done at the end, and all of them recorded positive feedback, validating this project for future development.
