Abstract: The perception of emotion from facial expressions is culturally mediated. Designing facial expressions of avatars should consider the demographics of users who would be interacting with them. An online survey was conducted to determine the facial measurements for emotions. Sixteen facial expressions of Malaysians were presented to subjects. They were instructed to select an emotion label that matched each expression. The expressions were decomposed into action units using OpenFace. Regression analysis determined the combination of facial measurements for each emotion.
